Changing patterns

A blue wall in the neighborhood, from my walk the other day

A blue wall in the neighborhood, from my walk the other day

After some appointments about a mile north of our house this morning, Erik and I decided to walk home. As we approached our neighborhood, he noticed a detour we could take that might make things more interesting. At first, I resisted mightily. It’s not efficient! It’s uphill! Why would we do that to ourselves! But then I caught myself mid-resistance, and remembered some of what I took in from Laura Vanderkam’s time management books recently: the more novelty, the more memories, the richer life feels. So I changed course and said: sure. We walked up the hill, discovered the way up wasn’t what we thought, and came out the other side.
